The Roof Design editor is where the roof design is drawn. You search an Australian address, the satellite image centres on the property, and you place physically sized PV modules on the roof in plan view. The same editor carries the stringing and the single line diagram, and it exports the design reports. You normally reach it from a quote, where ArcSolar opens it and links the design to the customer and site. It also runs on its own as an address-only editor. In its own workspace the editor is named Roof Design. The reports it prints are branded Roof Studio and footer-stamped Preliminary design — verify on site. Both names refer to the same editor.

Standalone design build on real Google satellite imagery — a commercial rooftop, not a customer site and not an approved layout. The Model catalogue is open over the canvas, with the tool rail at the left and the six design downloads at the right; the edit bar carries the selected model and the live panel counts. Google's imagery attribution is retained at the bottom of the map.

Work on the roof

Open: the quote’s Roof Design area, then Open Design Panel. The quote-side workflow is on Use Roof Design.
  1. Search the property address and wait for the roof image to load.
  2. Pick the panel in the Model dropdown. Build stays disabled until you do.
  3. Choose Build and place the array — click for one panel, or drag to lay a block.
  4. Set Portrait or Landscape, the Height spacing and Width spacing gaps, and Panel rotate and Panel tilt.
  5. Mark panels that are already on the roof with Existing.
  6. Check the layout against the actual roof. Detected roof faces guide the direction of new panels only — they never set tilt.
  7. Use the downloads on the right to produce the reports you need.
The toolsImagery and tools. Images and plans calibrates a floor plan or photo you supply against a known distance and a north direction. Solar production overlays Google Solar production and shade. If the address search or the imagery looks wrong, do not place panels on a guess. Imagery can be out of date, and a roof face read from a photo is an estimate, not a survey.
Google satellite image of a commercial rooftop with a demonstration panel array placed on it and the canvas status line reading 1762 × 1134 mm · 450 W · 20 × 20 mm gaps · 3 estimated faces · pitch unmeasured.

The status line under the canvas reports the roof check: the module size and wattage, the projected height and width gaps, and 3 estimated faces · pitch unmeasured. Faces read from imagery are estimates, and pitch is never derived from an image. Real Google satellite imagery of a commercial rooftop, with a demonstration array over it.

Design canvas in Build mode over Google satellite imagery of a commercial rooftop, with one adjoining panel footprint marked with a plus sign beside a single existing panel badged E, the edit bar above showing the selected model and the counts 56 panels · 24.75 kW new · 0 selected, and the Build-mode help line under the canvas.

Hovering beside an existing panel — the one badged `E` — reveals one adjoining footprint marked `+`. The extension inherits the neighbour's angle, tilt and product so the array stays consistent. The edit bar above carries the selected model and the live panel counts. Real Google satellite imagery of a commercial rooftop; the array is a demonstration build, not the customer's design.

ArgonixIntelligence in this workflow

Intelligence can help interpret the design and the reports it produces. It cannot verify the roof, the imagery, the panel data or the installation, and it cannot approve a design. Confirm the layout on site before anyone relies on it.
